"First published in Japan in 2020 by Kodansha Ltd., Tokyo as Boys run the riot, volume 1"--Colophon. "High schooler Ryo knows he's transgender, but he doesn't have anyone to confide in about the confusion he feels. He can't tell his best friend, who he's secretly got a crush on, and he can't tell his mom, who's constantly asking why Ryo 'dresses like a boy.' He certainly can't tell Jin, the new transfer student who looks like just another bully... The only time Ryo feels at ease is when he's wearing his favorite clothes. Then, and only then, the world melts away, and he can be his true self. One day, while out shopping, Ryo sees someone he didn't expect: Jin. The kid who looked so tough in class has the same taste in fashion as him! At last, Ryo has someone he can open up to--and the journey ahead might finally give him a way to express himself to the world."--From publisher.

Charlie Francis's five-year plan has gone to shit. She was supposed to greet the new millennium by diving head-first into a master's degree, but her thesis has ground to a halt, Y2K was a bust, her rambunctious family and claustrophobic hometown are driving her around the bend -- and the maybe-love-of-her-life, Adam, keeps joking about her moving home to marry him and have his babies. When Charlie's beloved uncle -- the same person who told her to get out of town and never look back -- dies suddenly, Charlie leans into her independence, breaking Adam's heart and rushing headlong into an academic career despite the baked-in racism of the predominantly white institution. When she unexpectedly becomes pregnant, she has to navigate being a (mostly) single mother on top of everything else. Charlie finds herself at a crossroads -- and only so much stress-baking can keep reality at bay. How can she reconcile being a student of history within the colonial system that exploited her ancestors? How can she be a good mother when she can barely afford groceries? And how can she be a proud Mi'kmaw woman when the world seems determined to keep her down? Maybe it's time for a new five-year plan.

Recently divorced and on the verge of bankruptcy, Dahlia Woodson is ready to reinvent herself on the popular reality competition show Chef's Special. Too bad the first memorable move she makes is falling flat on her face, sending fish tacos flying -- not quite the fresh start she was hoping for. Still, she's focused on winning, until she meets someone she might want a future with more than she needs the prize money. After announcing their pronouns on national television, London Parker has enough on their mind without worrying about the klutzy competitor stationed in front of them. They're there to prove the trolls -- including a fellow contestant and their dad -- wrong, and falling in love was never part of the plan. As London and Dahlia get closer, reality starts to fall away. Goodbye, guilt about divorce, anxiety about uncertain futures, and stress from transphobia. Hello, hilarious shenanigans on set, wedding crashing, and spontaneous dips into the Pacific. But as the finale draws near, Dahlia and London's steamy relationship starts to feel the heat both in and outside the kitchen -- and they must figure out if they have the right ingredients for a happily ever after.

Born to a charismatic Secwépemc and St<U+2019>at<U+2019>imc artist from a tiny reserve in the interior of B.C. and a Jewish-Irish woman from Westchester County, N.Y., Julian Brave NoiseCat grew up in a swirl of contradictions. He was the spitting image of his dad, but was raised mostly by his white mother in the urban Native community of Oakland, CA. He became a competitive powwow dancer, travelling the North American circuit, but despite being embraced by his family, he felt like an outsider when he spent time on his home reserve--drawn to his father's world, his Indigenous heritage and identity, but struggling to make sense of his place in it. Struggling also to make sense of the swirling damage his alcoholic father--who could turn into "a brawling Indian super vigilante in the mould of Billy Jack" out to kick colonialism in the ass--had caused to those he loved. So in his twenties, NoiseCat set out to uncover and tell the story of his father, of his Coyote People--the Interior Salish nations almost extirpated by the apocalyptic horsemen of colonialism--which soon rippled out, in five years of on-the-ground reporting, into the stories of other First Peoples in the United States and Canada, as NoiseCat attempted to counter the erasure, invisibility and misconceptions surrounding them. We Survived the Night paints a portrait of Indigenous life, entwined with a reckoning between a father and a son seeking a path to a future full of possibilities for himself and all the children of Turtle Island.

"Hello, people of Mercury. This is planet Earth. Are you receiving this? Please respond." Lieutenant Adeheid Koning was only twenty-three when the Earth's long fight against its environment ended in collapse and nuclear war. Earth's sudden silence leaves the colonies of the inner solar system without lifelines, in various stages of self-sufficiency. Or, in Mercury's case, not. To help her fellow stranded colonists of Mercury survive starvation and a breakdown of order, Adelheid fights some cold equations and makes some hard choices, ending up wearing an iron crown as queen of one of the rail cities of Mercury, constantly moving to stay ahead of the Sun. Fifty years later, Adelheid's granddaughter, Frieda, is a seventeen-year-old princess who would rather be an engineer. Frieda's life is shattered when a suspicious accident takes one of her arms--and is then turned upside-down when her mother dies from that accident. Frieda is left a young and vulnerable queen, locking horns with her grandmother, who is now regent and dowager. When the Earth makes contact again, after fifty years of silence, Frieda is eager to end Mercury's isolation, but Adelheid is suspicious of the Earth's sudden return, and wary of the other latitude towns' desires to accept all that the Earth is offering, without question. With thousands of lives on the line, is it wise to hope for healing? Or are we forever defined by what we do in the dark?
